    Christmas Crack

One of our favourite things my boys and I love to do at Christmas time is making cookies and treats. A few years ago I came across a new (to me) recipe. It was called: ‘Christmas Crack.’  I’m sure you can make your own assumption as to why it’s called that! 😉 This quick treat is so easy to make, and I can almost guarantee that it will soon be one of your favs too! My oldest son, Reed, has joined me in making this yummy treat for the past few years now.  He and I make this together and my youngest, Jack, and I make ‘Puppy Chow,’ together. *Side…

    Golden Garlic Chicken Thighs

Alright guys.  Are you ready for an easy and super satisfying chicken recipe?  I really don’t need to talk this one up because it really sells itself; truly love at first bite.  Garlic, turmeric, chicken thighs….what’s not to love!?  I came across this recipe last year and it called for chicken thighs.  I haven’t cooked chicken thighs in years because I’ve just always preferred white meat.  But, I have to say, I did (and will continue to) make this with chicken thighs.  It’s delicious!!  My boys love dark meat chicken and this dish is now a recurring meal in our house. The original recipe called for chili powder but I…

    Mom’s Pumpkin Roll

It’s still pumpkin season and this sinful dessert will knock your socks off!  It’s elegant looking, it’s simpler than you think to make, and it is SO good! When I was a kid the only pumpkin food that I ever knew of was pumpkin pie.  Someone somehow most likely convinced me to gag a bite down and ever since I never ate anything with pumpkin again.   Fast forward 25’ish years later.  We’re celebrating Thanksgiving and my Mom brings out dessert.  Pumpkin Roll. ‘Uggghh.  I knew I should’ve brought dessert.’ was the speech bubble above my head.  My mom kept telling us that it didn’t taste like pumpkin pie…

Ditch the Guilt and Put Yourself First

Hey guys!  I had planned on sharing a great chicken recipe with you today but that’ll have to wait.  There’s something else I felt like I needed to share.  Something that I’ve felt guilty about doing in the past – putting myself first. For the past week or more I’ve had to push through some tough personal ‘feels’ and emotions with various things, all while of course taking care of my family, our house, the pets and – myself.  I’m sure a lot of you can testify in that we tend to give our all to everyone else without hesitation; and in turn saving nothing for ourselves. Last night I…

“L” is for Lunch…Back to School Lunch

‘It’s the most wonderful time of the year….’ is the song a lot of parents are singing over and over right now as we scramble to get our kids ready for next weeks first day back to school.  For me, I honestly love having my kids home.  That doesn’t mean they don’t get on my last nerve, because they honestly do; and I’m pretty sure I’m on theirs as well!  I just enjoy having my kids around.  As much as I love the whole getting back into a routine, I always miss them when they’re back at school. This picture from 3 years ago still makes me laugh!  True expressions! …

    Zucchini, Tomatoe and Cheese Boats

Here’s yet another zucchini recipe from yours truly!  This veggie is just so versatile I can’t help but make meals out of it!  Summer is coming to an end soon though, so stay tuned for all things pumpkin in the next few weeks! 😉 When I first started cooking with zucchini just a few years ago, I came across this ‘recipe’ and made subtle changes to it to suit my preference.  I knew my kids wouldn’t eat it, so I made it the way I’d like it.  It was an instant hit.  My Grandma and parents happened to be over for supper the first time I made it and they…

    Anytime Nachos

These ‘Anytime Nachos’ are great to make for any time of the week – not just for Sunday night football….orr Saturday Leafs games.  The first time I’d ever made this was just last summer.  We were hanging out with my friend and her Son at the park for the afternoon and my youngest Son, Jack, had a ball game that night.  I knew I needed something relatively simple and quick to make so why not try a new recipe at this time, lol!?!  Luckily for us, they were quick and easy to make.  The longest part of making this was cooking the ground beef. They were so good.  I felt guilty…

    Finishing Touches

Whether you are going through a renovation or simply just redecorating a space in your home; it’s important to keep the little finishing touches in mind. Finishing touches are the final pieces you’ll add to your space that complete your makeover and help to show off your own, or your family’s personal style. When choosing what your space needs to tie it all together, reflect upon what style &/or theme you are trying to achieve. At this point in designing a space, you should have already painted, furnished and have the flooring done. Also remember that lighting plays a huge role in any design that many people tend to overlook.…

    Herb Garden

Herbs All Year Long This is the first of many years that we didn’t plant a veggie garden.  I had every intention to but then – there was life.  I was kinda ticked with myself  because it’s so convenient to walk just  a few steps out our back door to grab a fresh tomato or cucumber to go with supper.  The plus side though, is that we have so many farmers in our area so we still have many options to eat fresh and local.  Support your local businesses! What I’ve always wanted to do, since it can be done at any time of the year, is to plant some…

    Cooking With Kids

I’ll be the first to admit, having your kids help you cook and/or teaching them how to cook, can be stressful!  You want to let them help so bad, but you also want to keep your sanity and patience (and your kitchen somewhat clean?!)     Teaching our children and ourselves the life skill of cooking is so important. And you don’t need to be a top chef either. There’s always something for every skill level in the kitchen and it comes with a great sense of pride and accomplishment when you are able to make a meal.  Some days, depending on the task, cooking with your kiddos requires more…
