Free and Fun Summer Activities For Kids

Summer is officially here and the last day of school countdown has now reached single digits!!  It’s time to start thinking of some activities ready for the kids!  Summer camp is always a great option for many children.  There are so many options for to choose from it’s almost impossible not to find one that your children would enjoy.  My boys have  yet to dip their feet into the whole camp experience.  BUT, this summer my oldest, Reed, is finally going to golf camp!  Only for the mornings and 1 week, but this boy has been wanting to go since he was 5!!  He’s had a golf club in his…

    Beautiful Dream Homes

As a child, I used to dream about what my future Dream Home would look like.  I’d often sit in my room for hours, drawing out “blue prints” of houses that I wanted to build when I grew up and became rich!  I’d have so many pieces of printer paper taped together because my floor plans were huge!  Remember the kind of printer paper that you’d have to rip the perforated side edges off?!  I’d love sitting at my little desk and drawing out plans of houses, lofts, apartments…. I love so many different styles of homes.  Actually, one of the reasons I love New York City so much is because of…

    Growing Up. Slow Down!!

It’s that time of year again around here….Birthday Season!!  We just celebrated my Hubby’s 40th Birthday last month and now my oldest Son, Reed, is turning 10 next week!  Ten!! Double Digits! A Decade!  Ya know that cliche, ‘they grow up so fast’?  It’s so true!! Why do our kids have to grow up so fast?!!  If only we could slow down time sometimes.   This past year I’ve been obsessively looking back at pictures from when my boys were so little and dependent on me.  I miss those days of them wanting to play farm or trucks with me.  Even though at that time I was probably thinking, ‘will they…

    Rainbow Eruption

I have 2 very active and growing boys.  Reed will be 10 next month and Jack 8 in August. When they were younger, I’m thinking 3, 4, 5 and 6 years old, I set up a lot of fun science-y type activities for them.  We used to sit around the kitchen table and do them together.  They still ask to do those types of activities from time-to-time.  Usually on a rainy day when I’ve taken away the PS4 and they’ve had enough of playing mini-sticks! One of their favourite (yes, that’s how we Canadian’s spell it!) activities was always the ever popular “Rainbow Eruption!” Click for more fun Science activities…

    Cheesy Zucchini Lasagna Roll Ups

Summer is on the near horizon and that means it’s almost time for everything zucchini! A few years ago I spiraled into a zucchini overload!  Pinterest was bombarded with so many different delicious looking recipes that called for zucchini and I couldn’t resist trying some of them.  I’ve always bought zucchini off of a local farmer down the road.  He sells them for $2 and they are massive!!  I swear you could make 20 different recipes from just one of them! We’re very fortunate here in Southern Ontario to have a wide assortment of fresh and local fruit and vegs at our fingertips from May to October.     Growing…

Soft and Chewy Oatmeal Nutbutter Cookies

I have a serious sweet tooth, I guess I can blame my Dad for that one.  Just like him, immediately after supper, I ‘need’ to have something sweet.  It’s been a hard habit to break, so I’ve just come to accept it!  Even if it’s just a handful of chocolate chips. It’s hard having a sweet tooth, especially since I also consider myself to be a sugar warden!!  I’m always reading articles on how white sugar is so unhealthy and that it’s apparently one of the most addictive substances we put into our bodies each day.  In our house we try hard each day to limit our sugar intake.  That…

    Southwest Chopped Salad

I first made this salad a few years ago when we were having our friends over for a summer barbecue. I knew I wanted to make a salad for the get together, but I didn’t want it to be the same old, albeit good, garden, caesar or greek.  It had to be something different, but still delicious for us health conscious moms! I remember coming across this beautiful and colourful salad on Pinterest and pinned it right away.  It looked so healthy and vibrant looking with all of the bright chopped veggies.  It definitely didn’t look like any salad I’ve ever seen at a potluck before. So, I made it. …

    Staircases

I’ve always admired staircases.  Maybe it began way back in the Full House and Cosby Show days?!  Remember how both houses had a front and a back set of stairs?  I used to always think that ‘when I get my own home, I’m going to have 2 sets of staircases just like the Tanner’s house, too!   Or it might have started because of my Grandparents cool long and curvy case.  Then again, my aunt and uncle had a basement set that had an open runner on the one side that we used to use as a carpet slide!  My cousins and I used to spend so much time…
